The 2026 Winter Lecture Series
Beaufort, The Cradle of Secession, 1790-1860
HBF’s popular annual educational program returns with renowned South Carolina historians Dr. John McCardell, Dr. Larry Rowland, and Dr. Stephen Wise presenting on themes central to Beaufort and Lowcountry history. Held over three to five Thursdays in February and March at USCB’s Center for the Arts, the lectures explore topics ranging from the American Revolution, the Civil War, Reconstruction, maritime history, Native America heritage, and the evolution of Beaufort’s unique architecture and culture. The series offers an engaging opportunity for both longtime residents and newcomers to learn the authentic, compelling stories that shaped Beaufort’s pivot role in South Carolina and American history.
Tickets:
- $30 Single night ticket for HBF members/$120 for full series
- $35 Single night ticket for non-members/$140 for full series
- $20 Single night ticket for full-time students with valid Student ID/$80 for full series
- Tickets can also be purchased on site the night of each event.

- USCB – Center for the Arts
- 805 Carteret Street, Beaufort, SC
- Doors open at 4:45 p.m.
- Lecture starts promptly at 5:30 p.m.
All attendees must sign/check box for a waiver of liability before purchase of ticket.
